Supporting Mouth Cancer Awareness Month

Supporting Mouth Cancer Awareness Month

The health implications of smoking are well documented, but mouth cancer often gets overlooked. The majority of mouth cancer cases continue to be as result of smoking and tobacco use. Around one in five people in the UK currently smoke, which accounts for roughly two in every three mouth cancer cases.

Specialist Advisor Joy Thomas was on hand to offer Carbon monoxide screens and take referrals for people who want to stop smoking.

Mouth cancer awareness month is an ideal opportunity to highlight the dangers of smoking and oral health. People were also invited to be referred into the maxillofacial unit, where they are offered a free mouth cancer screen.
